What Causes Migraines?
Migraine causes are not fully understood, however, genetics and environmental factors appear to play a role. Migraines result from an oversensitivity of the nerves on the exterior of the brain, mainly the trigeminal and occipital nerves.
There are a number of things that trigger migraines, such as stress, sleep changes, weather changes, processed foods, hormonal changes, alcohol, and caffeine. Also, any overuse of pain killer medications can often lead to an increase in migraines.
Symptoms of migraines can include:
- Nausea and Vomiting
- Light sensitivity
- Throbbing pains
- Aura or “halo light”
